An exciting opportunity is available for an experienced State Manager to lead the VIC & TAS region for a successful and growing Australian fashion retailer.
Victoria is the second-largest state within the business, with a strong existing store network and experienced Operations and Area Managers. This is a key senior leadership role focused on driving sales, profitability, customer experience and team performance.
We are looking for a proven retail leader, not someone looking to step up into State Management, who can build on the success of the region and continue to drive growth.
Reporting to the Head of Retail, you will lead approximately 5–6 direct reports, including Operations and Area Managers, and take overall responsibility for the performance of the VIC & TAS region encompassing 49 stores.
You will develop and implement the retail strategy, coach and develop your leadership team, drive commercial performance and ensure consistently high customer, product and visual merchandising standards.
This is a Monday–Friday, highly mobile role, with the majority of your time spent visiting stores and working with your teams. Mondays will generally focus on administration, planning and team meetings. There is no regular work-from-home component.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and develop Operations and Area Managers to maximise performance
- Drive sales, profitability and key retail KPIs across VIC & TAS
- Develop and execute the regional retail strategy
- Build a highly engaged culture focused on ownership, accountability and achievement
- Develop talent and succession plans across the region
- Drive an exceptional customer experience across all stores
- Analyse business performance and identify opportunities for growth
- Partner with Product, Buying and Visual Merchandising teams to maximise sales and presentation
- Ensure strong operational standards, processes, stock management and wage control
- Monitor competitor activity and identify opportunities to grow market share
- Support new store openings and broader national retail initiatives
About You
You will be an established senior retail leader with:
- Proven State Manager or equivalent multi-site retail management experience
- Experience within fashion, apparel or high-volume specialty retail
- Strong commercial and business acumen
- A proven track record of driving sales and profitability
- Exceptional leadership, coaching and people development skills
- Experience leading and developing senior retail managers
- Strong understanding of retail KPIs and performance management
- A strategic, entrepreneurial and solutions-focused mindset
- The ability to build a high-performance and engaged culture
- A hands-on leadership style with a genuine passion for being in stores
