How you come across in your interview is critical as to whether you make it through the recruitment process…so how do you ace this within a competitive market?
Well here are our tips below:
-
Research the company you are meeting with – what are their values, goals etc. Reviewing their company website, LinkedIn and other social media platforms are an easy avenue.
-
Be familiar with the Job Description – yes, this sounds obvious, however if you notice “organisational skills” are required for this role, make sure you reference your skillset in this area and provide an example at the appropriate time.
-
Ensure you answer the question fully, ideally using the STAR method, which helps you articulate how you dealt with the issue at the time:
Situation – describe the situation you were in
Task – what was the task you had to complete
Action – list the actions you took
Result – finally, what was the end result -
Prepare yourself with 3-5 examples of work situations that you can adapt for behavioural based interviews. For example, if there was a time you went over and above to meet a client need within a set deadline, this can be used for behavioural based questions on Problem Solving, Time Management and Interpersonal skills.
-
Think of a few questions you want to ask them at the end of the interview, so you can get a better feel for them as a company. I always say an interview is a 2 way process, they are trying to determine whether you are the right person for them as you need to see whether this is a suitable role/environment for you.
