Be resume ready

It can be hard it can be to land an interview these days, so it is more important than ever to have your resume representing you accurately and professionally.

There are many different layouts available online to format your resume, however you will want to include basic details like your name, contact details, education/qualifications, overview and work history.

Here are some simple and effective tips to help guide you:

Keep a consistent format – for each of your roles, have the same format for the company name, your title, tenure etc. Then follow on with an overview on the company, your responsibilities and key achievements.

Optimum length of a resume – whilst there is no set answer to this, you don’t want it to be overly lengthy or too short, 3-5 pages however should be a guide, depending on the industry you work within.

Up-to-date contact details – ensure your contact details are accurate and there are no typos in your phone number/email etc. There have been times that we have tried to reach candidates but they have put incorrect details.

Are there gaps in your resume? – the potential employer will want to understand this. Was it that you were on maternity leave or travelling? If so, stipulate this to avoid any doubt.

Have another person review your resume – they may notice a typo/incorrect grammar or have feedback on how to position yourself.

Whilst there is no “set way” to format your resume, make sure it is clear and easy on the eye. If it is too cluttered, with unnecessary information, the hiring manager will likely disengage.
